Research at the frontier between Nanophotonics
and Biomicroscopy

Welcome to the website of Guillaume Baffou, CNRS researcher at the Institut Fresnel, Aix Marseille University, Marseille (France).

We study light-actuated phenomena in physics, chemistry and biology at the nano/micro scale, in the context of nanophotonics and cell biology applications.

Our main approaches consist in using and developing original, advanced optical microscopy tools, and benefiting from the ability of gold nanoparticles to behave as effective nanosources of light or heat, when illuminated at their plasmonic resonance wavelength.

An important part of our activity also relies on more fundamental research, purely theoretical or based on numerical simulations, regarding concepts in nano-optics, nanoplasmonics and more generally on small-scale physics.
